Jenisys to launch automatic Propylene Glycol dispensing system at Dairy Event
2 August 2010
Jenisys (Contracts) Ltd. will launch the PropyDos system at the Dairy Event (NEC 7th & 8th September - Stand Nos. MK049).
The benefits of feeding small accurate amounts of Propylene Glycol to high yielding cows over 3 years old during the first 50 days of their lactation is well recognised for reducing the incidence of ketosis. German research also shows that by administering 200ml of Propylene Glycol milk production can be boosted by up to 300 litres per cow per lactation.
“Until now the problem has been how to administer small amounts accurately without the use of special concentrates”, says Nick Jennings of Jenisys. “The PropyDos system automates this process simply by using the second feed function available on most out-of-parlour feeders.”
In operation a tank above each feed station stores a few days supply of the supplement which is dispensed by a special pump located in compact stainless steel housing. When a high yielding cow is recognised as having entered the feeder, the correct dose of propylene glycol is sprayed accurately onto standard feed ensuring each cow ingests the correct amount daily.
“These systems are common on continental dairy farms with over 10,000 units sold and the manufacturers are surprised they are not used in the UK” commented Nick Jennings. “We’ve noticed a big increase in interest for out of parlour feeders over the past few years as farmers struggle to individually feed high yielding cows. The PropyDos system is another tool available to progressive dairy farmers”
Jenisys believe the system can be fitted to most out of parlour systems with a programmable second feed facility. At the Dairy Event Jenisys will also launch a complete package for feeding and monitoring a high yielding cow based on the Nedap Velos system and consisting of feed stations, PropyDos dispensers and optional heat detection collars.

A single PropyDos dispenser costs from £695.00 per feed station including dispenser, tank and mounting hardware. A PropyDos system for rotary parlours is also available.
