RABDF Prince Philip Award goes to XL Vets
3 December 2010
XL Vets was presented with the RABDF Prince Philip Award 2010 by His Royal Highness at Buckingham Palace this week. The honour was made to the company for research and development in the field of dairy farming and the most practical, relevant and best technical exhibit at the Dairy Event and Livestock Show this year.
The judges made their decision on the company’s FarmSkills – Practical Farmer Training Workshops, a programme that invests time in the training and managing of farmers across the country.“We’re delighted and honoured to receive this top award,” explains XL Vets’ FarmSkills Manager, Sophie Throup. “Since launching FarmSkills nationally a year ago, our vets and industry specialists have trained over 1,000 farmers in skills such as DIY AI and cattle foot trimming to sheep parasite control, buying the right beef bull, and many pig, poultry and staff management workshops. The award is a fantastic credit to everyone who has worked so hard to deliver on-farm practical training to so many farmers in such a short space of time. We’re really thrilled.”
A Certificate of Merit was awarded to Somerset based consultancy, Kingshay for the Kingshay Health Manager, a programme specifically designed for herd health monitoring.
RABDF’s chief executive, Nick Everington says: “As organiser of the Dairy Event and Livestock Show, we are focused on communicating to farmers the benefits of best practice and technology transfer which will help towards improving their herd’s overall efficiency. We are pleased to reward those exhibitors who excel in technical innovation and presentation, and XL Vets’ Farmskills –Practical Farmer Training Workshopsproved to be an excellent example.” He adds: “RABDF will once again be staging the award at the Dairy Event and Livestock Show 2011 to be held at The NEC, Birmingham on 6 and 7 September, and we look forward to another set of high calibre entries.”
